HYBRID WORKING, COLLABORATION, CURATION, HOME FROM HOME

People

Our client is on a mission to help the businesses they work with make the world cleaner, healthier and more productive through the use of their precision measurement tools.

They chose to relocate from their previous office in Surrey to a new space at Melbourne House, just a short walk away from London’s lively West End.

As well as bringing them closer to their investors, the move coincided with a shift towards a hybrid working culture in which staff only attend the workplace once a week.

Space

While our client’s Surrey HQ was largely taken up by open plan desking to accommodate a team of 50-70 staff members every day, their new style of working resulted in a dramatic reduction in the amount of traditional desk space required.

As such, our client was able to move to a smaller space that could be specifically geared towards promoting collaborative and agile working.

The new London location houses just 16 traditional desks, while seven meeting rooms and a large breakout/collaboration area give staff plenty of opportunity to socialise and work together during their weekly visit to the office.

Intuitive systems

Ensuring that staff are able to make the most of office visits was a top priority for our client. This is particularly important when it comes to using office equipment.

We worked closely with an AV specialist to ensure that all technology solutions are as easy to use as possible, offering staff a seamless user experience and driving efficiency in our client’s new space.

Design

Precision in nature

While much of our client’s new workplace had already been fitted out by the building’s landlord, we were able to ensure key areas reflected their brand by implementing a fresh design concept.

Our understanding of our client’s love of precision, as well as their desire to support the wellbeing of their people led us to seek inspiration for our concept in nature.

Feeling drawn to the idea of using precise, naturally occurring patterns within the space, we chose to create an overarching theme based on a hexagonal, honeycomb structure. As well as offering a beautifully balanced architectural quality, the hive concept we created for the space also serves as a metaphor for the client’s focus on collaboration and interconnectivity.

This honeycomb motif can be seen throughout the space in the use of highly sustainable acoustic panels.

Additional biophilic elements such as the preserved planting we used to create a subtly branded feature wall also contribute to staff wellbeing and a feeling of vitality within the workplace.

Thoughtful curation

To create the client’s desired home away from home look and feel, we worked closely with an artwork supplier to develop a scheme that reflects our clients’ brand while adding colour and detail to the space.

We also worked with the client to populate certain areas with carefully curated books and objects to impart a personal, lived-in quality.
